Yeah, Huey. I definitely want to do an update on this post following Noah’s ideas. The problem is military experts are not always a forward-thinking bunch. I’ve had one message me extolling the braveness of the Taiwanese people and how we would surely put up an amazing fight in the case of a Chinese takeover etc etc but how does resistance warfare even work with current technology? I don’t know if Taiwan is safer or more unsafe due to these developments, but we’re probably not going to be facing down the scenario we plan for every year in the Han Guang exercises.

Sadly, my in-laws have an attitude similar to your friend's. My scenario is for an Anchulauss (1938) takeover from within. The KMT/CCP is a powerful fifth column. The majority on that beautiful island combine ambiguity, abject fear, and intentional ignorance to avoid all rational discussion.

I don’t agree that the KMT ought to be characterized as a 5th column. Almost half the population is KMT. If it weren’t for Hong Kong, KMT candidate Han Kuo-yu probably would have won. The DPP doesn’t help Taiwan but only sow division by characterizing the opposition party as CCP sympathizers.

I am sorry that is your opinion. The KMT is are clearly in favor of appeasing the PRC. It has never expressed a position of independence from the PRC and does not support any changes to the long out of date constitution. How can anyone take pride in "Chunghwa Taipei" as a name for international competition? A "Chinese Professional Baseball League"? A national flag that is the symbol of CKS and his defeated KMT?
